Mr. Gibbs is the Chairperson of the Probate & Estate Planning Department and serves on the Firm’s Board of Directors. He is licensed to practice in Ohio and Florida and is certified by the Ohio State Bar Association as a specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law. He focuses on providing creative, sophisticated estate, tax and business planning advice to business owners and other wealthy individuals. He also represents individuals, financial institutions and non-profits in fiduciary litigation matters involving trusts and estates.

Mr. Gibb’s estate planning practice includes estate, gift, generation-skipping transfer, charitable, business succession, and family tax planning; drafting of Wills, Trust Agreements, Powers of Attorney and associated documents; life insurance planning, including the design of life insurance trusts; education planning; and post-mortem tax planning.

He handles all aspects of estate administration in order to assist a personal representative or trustee with, and provide advice regarding, settlement of an estate, including: probate administration; identification and transfers of probate assets; non-probate and trust asset transfers and claims of beneficiaries of life insurance; annuities and retirement assets; disposition or distribution of real estate, household goods and personal effects; and preparation of final individual income tax returns and fiduciary income tax returns for the estate and trust, among others.

Mr. Gibbs guides owners of closely held businesses through the options and steps of succession planning, including buy-sell agreements, stock transfer restriction agreements, buy-outs, voting control arrangements, close corporation agreements, multi-generational transfers of business interests and operating agreements for limited liability companies.

His fiduciary litigation practice includes representing trustees, executors and beneficiaries over disputes involving estate and trust administration, will contests and breach of fiduciary duty claims.

Mr. Gibbs is listed in the 2010 through 2018 editions of The Best Lawyers in America© (Trusts and Estates and Litigation-Trusts & Estates), has been selected to the 2011 through 2018 Ohio Super Lawyers© List, and was recognized as an Ohio Rising Star in 2009.
